There are many different types of anal lube.

- Water based lubricants: These lubricants are easy to clean and they do not leave stains. Great for use with sex toys. The only disadvantage is that they dry out after some use so you need to keep applying them.

- Silicone based Lubricants: Silicone based lubricants are the newer type of lube. They are very similar to water based lubricants, but do not tend to dry out. So they last longer. You cannot use this lube with toys made from silicone.

- Oil and Petroleum based lubes: Probably the best known brand is Vaseline. Not recommend for use with many sex toys and also they cause latex condoms to break.

Anal Gels: The most popular brand is Innuendo. These gels can be applied before, after or during lubrication. They are said to work by helping to relax the muscles in the anus. They usually contain herbal extracts such as: Aloe Vera, Muira Puama, L-arganine, Myrrh, and Vanilla. I am not sure if anyone has tested to see what effects these ingredients have inside your anus. I wouldn't use them. I know for example if you put even a tiny amount of L-arganine directly onto your skin it will give a burning sensation.

Anal Sprays: Anal sprays are more or less the same as anal gels. They are designed to relax the anal sphincters. Many people will find them easier to apply. Again, I am not sure if anyone has tested to see what effects these ingredients have inside your anus. I wouldn't use them.
